We will be transferred by private 4 wheel drive vehicles with experienced guides to Musanze (formerly Ruhengeri).

The journey north goes through the beautiful terraced hillsides that characterize much of Rwanda’s landscape, gradually climbing to the base of five amazing volcanoes.

From Musanze, it is another 25 Kms to the Rwanda/Uganda border, then we will proceed to the multicultural border town of Kisoro – and further on to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where we will arrive at the Gahinga Lodge in time for (late) lunch.

Gahinga Lodge – bordering the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - is one of the most scenic spots in Western Uganda and is located in the foothills of the majestic Virunga Volcanoes.  After lunch, we will enjoy a brief visit to the Batwa Cultural Heritage Site.  The site consists of herbal gardens, a small collection of traditional huts, showing how locals live, hunt, and collect honey and other resources from the forest.

Gorilla trekking in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (Nyakagezi).

Friday

Golden monkey trekking, Uganda. The group will proceed to the entrance of the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to see the Golden Monkeys.

This rare species of golden monkeys live in the bamboo vegetation towards the base of the volcanoes. They are very sprightly creatures and leap from tree to tree which can be very entertaining.

After lunch, we will be transferred to the very scenic Lake Mutanda, where we will arrive at the Chameleon Hill Lodge by mid-afternoon.

Chameleon Hill Lodge is another one of the most scenic locations in Western Uganda and is perched on a narrow ridge overlooking Lake Mutanda and the Virunga Mountain Range.  After dinner, we will take a sunset boat excursion on Lake Mutanda.

Saturday

After an early breakfast, we will be transferred to the Kisoro Airstrip for our scheduled light aircraft flight departing at approximately 08h30 to Entebbe.  Upon arrival at the Entebbe International Airport at approximately 11h00,  for your International Flight.

Murundu Trip Report

My life changed the day I walked through the gates of a school in a remote village of Africa.I heard stories about the school many years ago and started following their progress, but I finally got a chance to see it for myself. My cousin Tannen started the school about 10 years ago and her story is extraordinary.

African Deep Bore Water Wells and Gorilla Trekking

The last week of August we will be traveling to Murundu to check up on our deep bore water well project and the school we support in Murundu and then travel deep into the African rainforest to trek among a family of gorillas.

Project Site Experience

Although this trip will be full of fun and adventure, it will not be a vacation. Be ready to be part of a deeply immersive experience, interacting with the people we help support. We will get to know the people by eating with them, hugging them and getting our hands dirty. An experience like this can be life-changing.

Gorilla Trekking Experience

After spending some time at the project site in Murundu, we will set off for an adventure deep into the African rainforest to spend some time observing a gorilla family.  We may get to see other large African animals such as elephants and hippos.

This gorilla trekking adventure will provide an opportunity to process what we learn from the project site and make plans for future action while experiencing one of the most amazing places on earth.

Network & Collaborate

These experiences give us the opportunity to network and collaborate with fellow entrepreneurs who think big and have vision way beyond ourselves and want to contribute back to the greater good

This trip is organized by effgg.org founder Eric VanZwieten
